n-e-life.com interview North East singer Jason Isaacs.

Tell us about yourself

I’m 37 years old, married to Sharon, and we have two children, Isaac and Daisy aged six and four.

We recently returned to live in Newcastle having spent two years in Spain.

When did the music start?

My parents bought me a saxophone when I was 17, but it was the early 90s that I played every night with a rhythm and blues band.

I worked in Gerschwins on Dean Street and played jazz sax in the background, then after two years I was singing and throwing in sax solos.

It was a great experience and really set me up for my first gig in Spain, which was in front of a crowd of 500.

How do you define your sound?

A youthful twist on rat-pack classics.

What are your main musical influences?

I love everyone from Bob Marley to Mantavani.

Fame or Fortune? Why?

Fortune. It’s a big world out there and I want to see it without the paparazzi.

What is the worst showbiz experience you’ve ever had?

I was on stage in New York and played my solo in the wrong key. The pianist had shouted B instead of Bb (B flat). I’d played three seconds before realising.

It was the longest three seconds of my life.

Any setbacks?

None that I can think of.

What’s been your greatest achievement to date?

Performing to a sell-out crowd at Newcastle City Hall.
