The hunt for regional suppliers for the extended IT funded project Catalyst2 has begun.

Launched on 1 January, the Catalyst2 funded scheme will help companies grow their business by becoming a supplier to the project.

Project manager Maria Humphreys said: “We’re looking for businesses that can provide services such as web design and hosting, e-commerce, e-marketing, database management, training, system configuration, infrastructure consultancy, search engine optimisation and accounting software.

“We sourced nearly 50 high quality regional ICT companies for the first Catalyst project and these companies formed part of our strong team delivering quality projects with valuable outcomes to over 80 regional SMEs.

“Catalyst2 is aiming to deliver e-business solutions, ICT services, support and advice to at least 650 North East across the region, we are looking to build on the base we already have.”

North East-based firm JL Web was an approved supplier for the Catalyst pilot project. Owner, John Leggett, is keen to build on the success enjoyed from the first project by maintaining supplier status for the Catalyst2 project.

He said: “Catalyst has provided a springboard for our company to develop into new markets, enhance our services, strengthen our team and raise our clients’ profile online – roll on Catalyst 2!”

At least 650 North East businesses will receive assistance or funding for innovative ICT and internet projects with the Catalyst2 project.

An extension of the original funded project Catalyst, it is managed by the North East Regional Portal (TNERP) and supported by One NorthEast, and is expected to run until March 2008.
