A North East consultancy firm is on cloud nine after achieving exceptional growth in its first year of trade.

Cirrus Environmental Solutions Ltd, based at the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC), has recently upped its expert team to five people to help manage several new projects, secured with local and national companies.

The firm, which specialises in environmental consultancy and health and safety solutions, was set up by Stuart Hovvels and partners Rachel Bowman and John Philp in early 2005. 

Since establishing, the firm has expanded rapidly and sales have exceeded predicted levels by over 30%.

It seems the sky is the limit for the business as Rachel explains: “the term Cirrus represents the highest flying cloud, detached from other cloud forms and land masses, and that’s how we aim to position our business in the market.

“Recent changes to health and safety legislation, in particular The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, have caused a headache for many manufacturing businesses.

“Our success has enabled us to take on new staff and invest in new technologies, which has further improved our performance enhancing the returns for both ourselves and our clients.”

Birtley Building Products Ltd is one of several North East companies currently benefiting from the expertise of Cirrus, as the firms production director Gary Holroyd explains: “the health and safety of our employees has always been at the top of our agenda and we always make every possible effort to protect our staff from workplace hazards. 

"However, as legislation continues to tighten we felt the need to recruit expert help from Cirrus who developed a tailor-made monitoring and assessment programme to assist us in our compliance with new health and safety regulations – we are very grateful for all of their help.”
